We're Going Leprechaun Hunting!

In a previous post, I conducted a writing activity on different ways to catch a leprechaun. This time, the fourth grade classrooms allowed the kids to go leprechaun hunting. Because it was a short week, the fourth grade teachers and I took some time out of the day to set up a scavenger hunt for the fourth grade classrooms. Both classes combined, we had fifty-three students altogether, so we needed extra helping hands from some parents to walk the students around the school to find the leprechaun's gold. We all started in Mrs. D's room next door and took individual groups one at a time about every two to three minutes.
First, we started in the computer lab for our first clue. Next, the second clue was in a book full of St. Patrick's Day poems.

The third clue was in the hallway. The kids were instructed to head to the main office to see the secretary.

The clue they found at the secretary's desk instructed them to see the principal for their next clue.

This clue, in turn, sent them back upstairs to one of the resource teacher's room with hopes that the leprechaun's stash was in there, but good ol' Mr. Leprechaun was very sneaky. He told the group that his pot of gold was hiding in Mrs. H's room the whole time! Needless to say that the kids were so excited, they sprinted down the hall to Mrs. H's room for the pot of gold.

The kids quietly got their loot, which was a sandwich baggie full of Twix Bars, Rolos, and M&Ms, and made their way back downstairs into the cafeteria, where our leprechaun left some other goodies and activities for them to do while the other groups were on a wild goose chase around the school.

Needless to say that this was a successful activity for the fourth grade as this was the first time both classes participated together.

I know it has been well over a month since I have blogged, but no worries, there are more student teaching stories on the way!
Much love,
Sarah
