The First Week of Student Teaching

As you can see, I have survived my first week of student teaching! To recap, I'm working with 4th graders at Consolidated: home of the Anchors!

My field teacher (Mrs. H) put me to work by getting to know my students through read-alouds and walking them around the school for lunch and specials. Mrs. H is also involved with the community in Terre Haute. At least once a month different speakers come in and read books from the Black Lagoon series; the class also receives a copy of the book.

Mrs. H also schedules class trips whenever possible. On Sunday, the majority of the class went to the ISU Women's Basketball game with their families. We were seated on floor seats, which the kids LOVED! We appeared on ESPN 3 a few times and were recognized before the game started; the kids got to high-five the ISU players and Sycamore Sam as they ran out on the court.

Halfway through the first quarter, two of the players from the men's team showed up and sat two rows away from our seats. The boys in the class were on cloud nine and sat with them for the remainder of the game. These basketball players were so nice, they engaged with the kids and even took a few selfies with them. They even joined our class picture after the game:

Even though not a lot has happened during my first week, I am excited for what is to come during the next fifteen weeks of my student teaching experience! Stay tuned as I continue with this new chapter in my life.

Until next time,

Sarah

"I'm Miss Fox, and yes, I do know what the fox says." Since that introduction, I knew I've had a knack for teaching. Welcome to my blog and join me on my journey through teacher-land.
